HOW WE CREATED THE 4TH EDITION
The Chocolate Scorecard ranks and grades chocolate companies on key sustainability issues. We estimate up to 95% of the chocolate industry is captured by the Chocolate Scorecard. The Chocolate Collective is coordinated by Be Slavery Free, with universities, consultants, and civil society groups engaging in transforming the chocolate industry. For the 4th Edition, we sent our survey to chocolate companies in December 2022, and assessed the responses during February 2023. This was done in accordance to the approval we received from Human Research Ethics committee from Macquarie University, Sydney. This ensures that the research is honest, rigorous, transparent, respectful, protects participants, and demonstrates that the research team has adhered to the highest contemporary ethical standards of a genuine research study involving human participants.
