EU, NGO organise workshop for 5 assemblies

The European Union (EU) in collaboration with the Friends of the Earth-Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has planned a number of advocacy workshops for five municipal and district assemblies in the Volta Region.

The workshop, which is mainly on governance, will tackle topics including “Rights-based Advocacy and Policy Dialogue”, “Gathering Community Opinion”, and “Monitoring District Assemblies Development Projects”.

The assemblies are Hohoe and Kpando Municipalities, Afadzato South, Afadzato North, and South Dayi Districts”. The first workshop was attended by 40 participants, including community member of the Hohoe Municipality and Afadzato South District, at Hohoe.

Dr. Theo Anderson, the Director of Friends of the Earth-Ghana, said the programme would help promote constructive public engagement of assemblies with local authorities in a constructive manner. He said the lack of communication had led to confrontation between authorities at the local level and absence of development.

The facilitator for the programme, Mr. Francis Dusey, the Hohoe Municipal Director of the National Commission on Civic Education, asked the assembly members to seek the opinion of the people they represent before taking decisions that would affect their development. He urged the people to monitor projects being executed by the assemblies.
